Upsizing, downsizing, rightsizing, call it what you will, but one of these could be a primary reason for moving.

In this, our latest blog post, we talk about upsizing and give five signs that you’ve outgrown your property:

  1. A growing family – that charming 1 bedroomed apartment or two bedroomed cottage no longer cuts it when babies are factored in. Have you ever seen people go from small hatchbacks to big SUVs when a baby arrives? We have, even from our estate agency base, here in Fakenham. Babies create paraphernalia: buggies, travel cots, take up space in the family car and even more in your home. Room to sleep, room to play is needed and not just for the newborn but for the tired parents!
  2. Another sign your property is no longer suitable is if your circumstances change. As increasing numbers of the workforce take the plunge and work from home, people find that a kitchen or living room is no longer adequate for home-working – you could use a spare bedroom (assuming you have one), install a garden home office or extend or look for that valuable extra reception room by upsizing.
  3. The garden may be another reason to upsize. If you have children, properties with ample gardens command a premium and they also give scope for extensions, summerhouses etc. If you find the bijou courtyard garden is no longer adequate for your needs, it could be time to move.
  4. Parking. As families grow, the need for off road parking without restrictions may be more desirable. With town street increasingly restrictive in places like King’s Lynn and Holt, you may want to move to where parking off road is assured.
  5. Ceiling price. Every street in almost every town has a “Ceiling Price”. Put simply, no matter if you extend with a single storey, two storeys, add a basement, undergo a loft conversion, you may be unlikely to recoup these costs, because of the ceiling price. If you want to know your ceiling price, ask Ross or Laura, who are experts on the property market in Norfolk.
